Tech Accessories that Put the Cool in Back-to-School
Kids aren’t always happy to head back to school, so it can be nice to get them one or two items during back to school shopping that they’re excited about. The opportunity to use these items can help make the transition into that first day of school a little easier. Here are my favourite back-to-school tech accessories that bring the cool factor to heading back to school:
Price: $34.99 – $39.99
Kids can be tough on their devices, especially when they’re carrying them from point A to point B. If your child carries a laptop to and from school or to friend’s places to work on homework, it’s wise to invest in something to help him or her protect it. The Tucano Colre Laptop Sleeve is the perfect solution. It’s a neoprene sleeve that provides enough protection to be carried on its own but is slim enough to slip into a backpack. The sleeve comes in a few different colours, making it easy to add a splash of fun to your child’s laptop.
Price: $29.97 – $49.97
OK, so you can definitely find a less expensive USB to add to your child’s arsenal this year, few will add the cool factor of allowing them to transfer files to and from their computer and their Android devices. The SanDisc OTG USB is equipped with a USB and micro-USB connector so kids can easily transfer items between a range of devices. Best of all, it uses USB 3.0 making transfers lightning fast. The one thing to look for before purchasing this device is to ensure that your child’s Android device or devices are OTG, or On-The-Go, enabled.
Giving presentations can be nerve-racking enough for kids without having to deal with the hassle of trying to figure out how to change slides using their mouse or keyboard, which can really break up the flow of their presentation. One way to combat this is to invest in a wireless presenter that allows for wireless navigation. The Logitech Spotlight is compatible with Mac and Windows operating systems, making it the ideal solution. It can also be connected to the computer using a receiver or a Bluetooth connection. This presenter also offers some great features beyond seamlessly cuing slide changes. For example, it lets the presenter highlight areas of a slide by magnifying them. Obviously this device is a bigger investment as far as tech accessories go, so I would recommend it for older kids who are in high school or university.
The HP Sprocket might not be a back to school essential, but it’s a lot of fun and a great accessory to help older kids capture their favourite memories. This little gem prints 2 by 3-inch photos directly from a smartphone or tablet. It’s a small device, about the size of a smartphone, that connects to a smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth. There’s even a companion app with some great photo editing functions.
If your child uses a tablet for school, a keyboard can make their life a whole lot easier. A tactile keyboard can make typing much easier. The Logitech K480 Bluetooth Multi-Device Keyboard is a great solution. As you might guess, it connects to devices via Bluetooth and has a handy cradle for propping up a tablet of smartphone. This keyboard can connect to three devices and easily switches between them. With a choice between white or black, this keyboard definitely brings the cool factor to using a tablet.
